Occupational injury

Employees enjoy special protection in Germany. They are insured against accidents and occupational illnesses through their employer not just when they are at work, but also when on the way to and from work. There are special regulations for handling occupational injuries. One is crucially important: An ‘accident insurance doctor’ must be consulted after an occupational injury. He is specially trained to treat occupational injuries. He is also responsible for the handling and settling with the competent employer’s liability insurance association, to whom occupational injuries must be reported. Employer’s liability insurance associations are the bodies responsible for the statutory accident insurance for the companies. The contributions for the statutory accident insurance are paid by the employers.
